When do Strangers Prey? At Night, duh! Let’s go!
Pop Quiz Hot Shot!
1) Prey? Good question. How many Predator films have there been? And yes, this would count any film in which the Predator appears as a primary character.
2) On the soundtrack we have the song Total Eclipse of the Heart which was written by Jim Steinman, but who was the Welsh singer who sang it?
3) The brother in the film is played by Lewis Pullman. You guessed it, he’s the son of Bill Pullman. That is fun. One of his first ever roles was in Spaceballs where he played a Han Solo parody. What was his character’s name?
4) Bailee Madison plays the sister. She played Snow White in Once Upon a Time. The Snow White you’ll know was the original animated film released by Disney during their Golden Age. There are four other films in the Golden Age. Name them.
5) The original film referenced one main crime which was the Manson Family Tate murders. The actual inspiration was the book which detailed the killings. Written by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry, what is the name of the book?
Bonus NYTimes Listing Question: Speaking of home invasions, Patriot Games played primetime on May 15, 1993 on HBO, up against:
What is this film?
Answers
1) Prey was the seventh film. It went Predator, Predator 2, Alien vs. Predator, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, Predators, The Predator, and finally Prey. The plural in the fourth one is tripping me out. Some people wouldn’t count the AVP series, but you know I do. It is canon in my heart.
2) That would be Bonnie Tyler. Her connections are incredible. She married the British representative for judoka in the men’s half-middleweight division of the 1972 Summer Olympics (Munich), Robert Sullivan. His cousin is the father of Catherine Zeta-Jones.
3) Yeah, it is a bit of you either know it or you don’t, but once you hear Dark Helmet say it you can’t forget it: Lone Starr! I never knew it had the double R if I’m being honest. It is such a good film. I think I watched it 50 times when I was like 8 years old, we’d watch it every day after school for a while.
4) I think one is easy (Pinocchio) as it is the famous second film. Two are gettable (Dumbo and Bambi, if you know the film 1941 you’ll know the general watched Dumbo, so that pins its release to ‘41 which is in the 1937-1942 range for the age). And then you’ll just have to pull Fantasia which I think people could be forgiven for forgetting.
5) Helter Skelter. It is, at the very least, one of the most famous True Crime books ever. I know it is considered quite good, it won the Edgar Award the year it was released. I do tend to trust the book True Crime by Bill James to detail whether these books are actually good reads. I’ll have to check it out.
Bonus NYTimes Listing Answer: That would be The Parallax View. I have wanted to see this for a while, because I’ve watched a lot of 90s political thrillers … still haven’t gotten to it.
It doesn’t help that there are just so many dang movies, you know?
